With her colleagues at the Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Caligor has developed Transference-Focused Psychotherapy – Extended (TFP-E). TFP-E is a model of psychodynamic therapy designed to enhance one’s sense of self and ability to establish and enjoy satisfying relationships with others. Based on TFP principles and making use of evidence-based principles of psychotherapy, TFP-E extends the reach of TFP to the entire range of problems in the domains of healthy and impaired personality functioning and associated symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Dr. Caligor lectures and teaches in a variety of settings, both nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the Irma Bland Award from the American Psychiatric Association and teacher of the year awards from residents and psychoanalytic candidates at Columbia. She is first author of Psychodynamic Therapy for Personality Pathology: Treating Self and Interpersonal Functioning (2018), and Handbook of Dynamic Psychotherapy for Higher Level Personality Pathology (2007), both books published by American Psychiatric Publishing. Dr. Caligor’s research is in the evaluation and psychodynamic treatment of personality pathology. She is a co-author of the Structured Interview for Personality Organization (STIPO), a semi-structured interview evaluating personality health and impairment within the framework of object relations theory.
Dr. Caligor is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and she completed her psychiatric and psychoanalytic training at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital.
