Dr. Eve Caligor is a founding member of TFP-New York. Her clinical expertise is in the psychotherapeutic treatment of psychological problems that compromise healthy personality functioning. When relatively mild, such problems may lead to difficulties with intimacy, self-esteem, or effectively pursuing personal goals, and when more severe, may lead to global problems in daily living and personality functioning. With her colleagues at the Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Caligor has developed Transference-Focused Psychotherapy – Extended, a model of psychodynamic therapy designed to enhance one’s sense of self and ability to establish and enjoy satisfying relationships with others. Based on TFP principles and making use of evidence-based principles of psychotherapy, TFP-E extends the reach of TFP to the entire range of personality functioning. A master clinician-educator, Dr. Caligor teaches psychodynamic therapy to trainees and graduate clinicians in a variety of settings, both nationally and internationally. She is first author of Psychodynamic Therapy for Personality Pathology: Treating Self and Interpersonal Functioning (2018), and Handbook of Dynamic Psychotherapy for Higher Level Personality Pathology (2007), both books published by American Psychiatric Publishing. Dr. Caligor’s research expertise is in the evaluation and psychodynamic treatment of personality pathology. She is a co-author of the Structured Interview for Personality Organization (STIPO), a semi-structured interview evaluating personality health and impairment within the framework of object relations theory.
Dr. Caligor is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and she completed her psychiatric and psychoanalytic training at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital. She has been elected to the American College of Psychiatrists and is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the Irma Bland Award from the American Psychiatric Association and teacher of the year awards from residents and psychoanalytic candidates at Columbia.
